Alors que Major League Wrestling poursuit la WWE pour des pratiques jugées « anticoncurrentielles », Joey Janela appuie l’attitude de la WWE.
Janela, qui oeuvre actuellement à la AEW en plus d’être un des leaders de Game Changer Wrestling, a travaillé à MLW en 2018. Il affirme que cette compagnie ne traite pas bien ses jeunes talents.
En 2020, Janela avait déjà mentionné que les lutteurs de bas de carte sont payés moins de 3000 $ par année à MLW, pendant que son fondateur Court Bauer s’en sort très bien financièrement.

Le chef d’exploitation (COO) de MLW, MSL (de son vrai nom Jared St. Laurent), a répliqué dans une entrevue sur Wrestling Inc., se questionnant sur les propos de Janela alors qu’il est en état d’ébriété durant les galas de GCW et que plusieurs lutteurs sont victimes de commotions cérébrales.
Il ajoute que Janela fait référence à la situation de MLW il y a cinq ans, alors que le nombre de spectateurs était moins élevé.
“Well, I did see him say something, he’s just trying to look out for young wrestlers. Is he looking out for young wrestlers when he’s drinking at shows and giving them concussions? I wonder about that,” he added. “But also, I think there’s a lot of false info out there.
“I have personally scouted, negotiated, and signed every single wrestler in MLW. So if anybody wants to complain about a contract, you come to me. And the outdated info that is used to criticize us is early contracts, from five years ago when we had 300 fans in a nightclub in Orlando.”
MSL ajoute que Janela cherche desespéremment à joindre la WWE.
