Lors du point de presse après All Out, Bryan Danielson a mentionné que la WWE lui a fait une offre très intéressante avant qu’il décide de joindre la AEW.
Dave Meltzer a confirmé, sur Wrestling Observer Radio, cette affirmation.
La possiblité pour Danielson de lutter parfois à New Japan Pro Wrestling a été au coeur des négociations. Nick Khan, président de la WWE, cherchait d’ailleurs à établir un partenariat exclusif avec cette promotion japonaise.
“New Japan was a big thing. The key aspect of this was whether Nick Khan could pull of the exclusive deal between New Japan and WWE which obviously did not happen. Because if that happened, maybe he would have gone in the other direction and maybe he wouldn’t have.”
Meltzer soutient que la WWE était sur le point de permettre à Danielson de lutter pour New Japan, en offrant en plus des conditions monétaires similaires à celle de la AEW.
“Both offers were money-wise similar. And both would have allowed him to do New Japan. WWE was going to allow him to do New Japan and he was trying to open the door for other people in WWE that wanted to go to New Japan to be able to do that but that seems to be a dead issue right now from a WWE standpoint.”
La décision de Danielson d’aller à la AEW aurait donc été influencée par sa volonté de faire ce qui est mieux pour l’industrie de la lutte, soit ajouter un élément de compétition, comme l’a fait jadis Mick Foley en choisissant la TNA.
“He may have felt like Mick Foley did many years ago when he went to TNA, that the best thing for the industry is competition at a high level. Mick Foley went to TNA years ago for that reason.”
“For the industry as a whole, if competition is one of the key things then going to AEW would obviously be a big part of that as well. So, that was a factor.”
