Détenteur du titre IWGP United States Heavyweight à New Japan Pro Wrestling, Hiroshi Tanahashi envisage d’intensifier sa présence aux États-Unis en tant que lutteur.
Tanahashi a vaincu Lance Archer lors de l’événement NJPW Strong Resurgence. Il a détenu au moins une fois chaque titre disponible au sein de cette promotion de lutte majeure.
La star japonaise a confié à Sports Illustrated qu’il souhaite lutter au moins une fois par mois aux États-Unis, car il prend son nouveau titre au sérieux.
“I think the IWGP U.S. heavyweight championship is truly meaningful when it is defended in the U.S. I have a desire to go to the U.S. once a month. Sometimes, I’d even like it to be once a week.”
À cause de la COVID-19, New Japan demande aux fans d’être moins bruyants et démonstratifs. Ce fut donc un plaisir pour lui de lutter aux États-Unis, devant une foule qui pouvait crier et huer normalement.
“This was the first time in a year and a half that I was able to wrestle in front of a vocal crowd. It was a really exhilarating feeling, and it gave me a ton of extra strength. I was incredibly fired up. It was a fantastic environment to wrestle in.”
Tanahashi défendra son titre IWGP United States Heavyweight à Wrestle Grand Slam, le 4 septembre, contre Kota Ibushi.
