Même si Dwayne Johnson a un horaire fort chargé avec ses nombreux projets touchant le cinéma et la télévision, son alter ego The Rock aimerait bien lutter de nouveau.
Durant la promotion du film “Skyscraper”, Cathy Kelley – intervieweuse pour la WWE – lui a demandé s’il souhaitait éventuellement retourner dans un ring de lutte.
The Rock lui a répondu qu’il avait très hâte de retrouver l’énergie de la foule, car selon lui rien ne bat cette connexion spéciale.
“I can’t wait to get back into the WWE ring. Everybody always asks me, ‘what’s it like being in a WWE ring?’ I always tell them there’s nothing like it. There’s a certain live crowd acumen, there’s great connective tissue that’s second to none. That was, and will always be the best part of my job, whether I’m actually wrestling a match, or just giving a promo. That connection with the audience, there’s nothing like it.”
La dernière présence de The Rock en tant que lutteur n’a duré que 6 secondes, contre Erick Rowan à Wrestlemania 32. Son dernier vrai match fut contre John Cena, à Wrestlemania 29.
